And now the Q&A...

Art

1. Does it cost to have your art on Team Artail?
A: Nope, artists chosen to have their art hosted on Team Artail don't pay for it, it's free.

2. It asks me for a login and password to upload my art, how do I get one?
A: You need to submit samples of your art and be accepted and given an account before you can upload your art to the gallery. For information on that, read on.

3. What do you think of my art?
A: I usually hate being asked this question, it's very hard for me to answer. I don't consider myself a great art critic, I only choose art that I really like personally, and those are the artists who get a gallery on this site. Chances are your art is in fact pretty good, but I have hundreds of artists to choose from, so I tend to pick out what I think is the very best of what I see. I'm not stopping you from getting your art on the internet, there are other archives to apply to, like Side7, VCL, etc. Which can be found in the links section of this site. If you really want someone to critique your art, then head on over to the TAMB (Team Artail Message Board) and check out the Art Critique Forum. Make sure to read the rules and FAQ there to avoid confusion.

4. Where can I send samples of my art for you to see?
A: If you'd like to send in some of your art for me to look at, it can be sent to fanart@artail.org. Please only send 3-5 pictures attached to your email, though you can also include a URL to where more of your art can be seen if you'd like. If your art is deemed among the best of what we've received, then you'll get a reply back when we decide to add more artists. Sometimes there's long busy periods in between that where I'm occupied with other things, so please don't expect a quick response. ^_^;

5. It's been more than a month since I sent you my samples, why haven't you replied?
A: Well, as I said above, I don't usually get to picking out new artists right away. So it may be quite some time before you get a response, if at all. I generally do not reply to people whose art I don't choose to host, because more often than not it ends up becoming a hostile situation with them yelling at me for something or other. So I just don't reply to avoid the whole process.

6. Can I send more samples?
A: If you haven't gotten a reply saying you're accepted, then by all means, feel free to send more samples. Refer to the same rules for sending in sample pics, and please limit yourself to sending samples a maximum of once a month so save space in my inbox. ^_^;

7. Can I trace or copy someone else's art and tell you it's mine?
A: Uh, no. If you do this it will make the artist whose work you copied/traced very mad, and could get you in a lot of ttrouble. In addition, submitting someone else's work as your own will lower your chances of ever being hosted to about zero. This includes scanning/copying exact art from the comics or games and running it through Photoshop.

8. One of the artists here copied one of my pictures!
A: If copied material somehow ends up in the archive, I do my best to see that it's removed promptly, as has been done in the past when such situations arise. But if you ever spot a copied picture, please notify only the artist whose art was copied and let them take care of it. It gets very annoying for everyone when it turns into a huge battle involving the entire community. Such matters should only be discussed between the original artist and the copying artist.

9. Wow, Artie, all your art is so good!
A: Err, yes I've actually been told this before, but I hope you people realize the art on this site is not mine ^_^; You see where it says "Submitted by so and so" next to each pic? That's who the artist of the particular pic is, unless they state something otherwise in the image description.

10. So, uh, do you draw then?
A: I tried drawing years ago with unpleasant (to myself) results, so I quit then and no, I don't draw. ^_^;

11. Can you ask one of your hosted artists to do a request for me?
A: If you would like a particular artist to draw a picture for you, then you should check the information at the top of their gallery and find out if they accept requests. If it says they do, then email them to ask for one. If it says they don't, then it means they don't. I can't magically make them accept a request from you if they don't accept requests. You might also want to look into doing an art exchange with them (You draw them a pic and they draw you a pic), or if you can't draw, you might want to look into the option of a commission (Paying for a pic).

12. The way you choose artists to be hosted isn't fair!
A: I hate to sound mean, but the fact remains that I run this site, so the archive and the artists who go into it are pertaining to my standards and my opinions. I've been criticized for it before, but the general consensus is that more people actually like the selection of art and actually praise this site for not letting just anyone in. You might also want to think to yourself, if just anyone was allowed to be hosted here, would you still want to be hosted here? If something like that doesn't matter to you, then VCL or Side7 would probably very good options.

13. Why are almost all the artists on Team Artail girls?
A: Because 90% or more of the new artist submissions I get are in fact, from girls! Yes, there are guys out there who draw, and there are some good ones! As is seen from the few of them who are hosted here (It's not ALL girls, you know.) It just tends to be the case that girls put more time and effort into art than guys do, so things end up that way. That's certainly not the rule though, there's plenty of great male artists out there. Just far more female artists! (That seem to be interested in Artail and have a great art style anyway!)

14. So do you host artists in exchange for.. you know.. favors?
A: Argh, this rumor has been going around for far too long. No, I have never hosted any artist based on a favor of any sort. Anyone who knows me will tell you so, and if someone tells you otherwise, they obviously don't know me.

15. You seem to act like you're friends with and know all the artists. Do you?
A: I can't claim to know ALL of the artists hosted here on a personal level, but I am close friends with many of them. That's why I often speak of them as such. :)

16. Can I use the characters that I see in the artists' galleries for my own uses?
A: Any character appearing on this site that you know you didn't create, then, uh, no! Characters depicted herein are the property of either the artist or the creator as stated in the image description. If you want to use a character for something, then please email the creator of that character

17. Do you consider sites like Side7 and VCL competitors?
A: Certainly not. They're just other sites offering the same services to artists as I do (Though they do have better scripts). I'm not in this for competition. If there's other sites out there doing the same thing, then it's great. More art out there for everyone. I even provide links to similar archives in the links section of this site.

18. Is there an age limit?
A: Nope. There are artists of all ages within the archive on this site.

Fanfic
1. What's the deal with the fanfic section?
A: Well, originally it was being done by me, years ago. I don't really read fanfics myself though, due to lack of time, so can't really run that part of the site very well. The job was handed off to Mind eventually, who did a great job with it. Then he decided he wanted to quit and DJ Mike was supposed to take over. Well, he sorta started to but then never really did anything and I've been kinda out of contact with him. I'd like to get Mind back to maintaining it again, but he has some demands that I'm not intending to agree to, so it may be a while before anything happens with the fanfic section. We shall see.

Profiles
1. What's the deal with the profiles section?
A: That was something that was started when this site was still young and I stopped adding new entries because it was becoming a major pain to keep up with. That tends to be the area of the site that gets made fun of the most, because lets face it, a lot of the characters in there are terrible clones of Sonic characters and not very original. Though there are some good ones, the bad ones far outnumber them. I know a lot of you out there would like to submit your character profiles again, and we're planning to perhaps re-open that section in the future, however it will be fresh, with all the current profiles gone. This however is something that is still in planning, so please be patient, as we're not sure when any progress will be made yet.

Links
1. Can you link to my site?
A: I only link to sites I visit often and really like, or friends' sites. I decided this because I was getting requests to link to hundreds of sites and it was too much to maintain, making sure none were broken, etc. If I can find an easy way to do so, I may take general link requests in the future, but not for the time being.

2. Can you affiliate with my site?
A: I will only affiliate with sites who have a similar subject matter and can send at least close to as many hits back to me as I send to them from such affiliation. Being affiliates should have mutual benefit to both sites involved, so unless your site is on the level of my current affiliates, I'm afraid I'll have to turn you down. ^_^;

3. Can you put my site banner in the rotation at the top of the main page?
A: You may have noticed Chordsy's or Axer's site banners in there, but that's because they're both very good friends of mine. I generally will not add a banner there unless I get something in return, or it's paid for, etc. The point of that ad space is to help me make money with paid banners (Like the Amazon ones). So if you'd like to pay for banner placement then let me know and we can talk about it. :)

4. Can I link to Team Artail?
A: Sure! This site is "link free", which means you may link to it without asking! Feel free to use one of the banners from the choices here if you'd like.

Hosting
1. Can you host my site?
A: I'm afraid this is something else that only works out for my very best friends. Yes, some of my friends are hosted for free, but I do not give any of them more than 20 MB of space for free. I'm not looking to provide free hosting to so many people that all my disk space is gone though, so if you want hosting at artail.net (I can even host domains), then we might be able to work out some sort of payment deal (Since this site does run me $100+/mo. to keep up). Though you would have to prove trustworthy, as I'm not keen on giving access to any part of my server to just anyone.

Files
1. Why don't you put MP3s on Team Artail?
A: Because it's not legal. You can argue that fact if you want, but let me tell you this: I used to have MP3s on the site a few years back, and Sega contacted me (through SimpleNet, my old host) asking me to remove them, or my site would be suspended. So I had to do so. I know RealAudio isn't the best form of the music to listen to, but hey, there is information provided for purchasing the CDs, so if you want it that badly, that's what you should do! :)

2. Can you send me MP3s?
A: If only one person was asking for one MP3, I might be kind enough to send it to that person, but so many people ask me for MP3s, that I don't give them out at all. If you truely want the music that badly, then you can go out and buy the CDs with the information I've provided. Any 10 year old can raise money by raking leaves or shovelling snow or washing cars to do so. Saying you don't have any money is just a lazy excuse and doesn't hold up much.

3. Why don't you put the RM or DivX episodes of Sonic SatAM that are out there on Team Artail?
A: Once again, yes, years ago I did indeed have the RealVideo episodes of SatAM hosted on the site. However I lost them when I moved servers in the past, and just never got around to reposting them. However, I will not post them now, because They are beginning to be released on DVD. One DVD is already out with 5 episodes from the first season, with more possibly to follow, though I don't have any confirmation on that yet. But it is likely. If you truely want the episodes, then please buy them on DVD once they are released, or your favorite episode might never see the light of day on DVD.

4. Can you send me episodes of Sonic SatAM?
A: No, because this will again hurt the chances and sales of the episodes being released on DVD. If you want to see the cartoon series that bad, then buy the DVD that is already out and then wait for more to be released. It's bound to happen. And not having money is again no excuse. Any kid can do odd jobs around the neighborhood for money to buy things, I did it when I was young.

5. Can I take your files and use them for my site?
A: No you may not! First off, some of the material on Team Artail is stuff by other people, and hosted on this site with their permission. Taking files or art and using them for your site would be a bad idea and could get you in bad relations with people. If you want other people to see material on this site, then please link to Team Artail. :)

6. Can I link to your files?
A: You may link to Team Artail's main page or any HTML page on the site, but not directly to any other type of file. Doing so uses more of the server resources than is necessary and slows down the site for everyone. If you want people to see something that's on this site, then link to the main page or a subsection, but never directly to a file or image. If it becomes a real problem, I can block all outside linking to the server (as you see with geocities, Tripod, Angelfire, etc.), but that's something I really don't want to do and hope I never have to. So please do as the above says. :)

Misc.
1. Can you start a petition for this game/show/comic I like?
A: While the petition I held for Sonic SatAM did have some success (thousands of signatures, I'm not claiming that it had anything to do with the release of the show on DVD), petitions generally aren't very successful unless they have thousands or tens of thousands of signatures. While I may have been able to generate so many signatures for SatAM, I don't think any other subject would gather so many on this site. Plus, if I'm going to run a petition for something, it'll be something I want to have a petition for, not something someone else wants a petition for. Sorry. :)

2. Can you help me make a web page?
A: I'm afraid the answer to this one would have to be no. Lately I've been becoming more and more busy with so many things that it would be very hard for me to sit down and teach someone HTML and how to start their own web site, or give them tips. Maybe someday I'll make a section with tips or something, but for now I recommend going to Yahoo and looking up "HTML tutorial" or "guide", and you should find plenty of sites that will teach you how to create your own web page. :) Also, the Web Page Tips on the Anime Web Turnpike would be a good read too.

3. Can I help you work on the site?
A: I'm going to have to decline any offers like this for now. I know it looks a lot like I could use help with certain things on the site, but there are reasons I don't accept help from just anyone who offers. When I'm ready to ask someone to help out with a section of the site I will contact someone I have in mind or announce that I'm looking for someone. I appreciate that you'd like to help and all, but no thanks, for now. :)

Artie (as a character)
1. Can I draw Artie?
A: Anyone is free to draw Artie, sure. Just as long as I get to see the pic! I should also hopefully get a decent gift art section up in the future too. Something I really need to do.

2. Can I use Artie in my comic/game/story?
A: I used to allow this, but I'm afraid the general answer will have to be no for now, as I can't really keep up on all the stuff Artie is being used for. Don't have time to read/see it all. I may make exceptions for comics, but that would probably be it.

3. What are some of Artie's character details? Personality, etc.
A: This is probably another reason I don't really want my character being used too much, I haven't taken the time to think about all this. ^_^; Artie is basically a furry version of myself, so those of you who know me personally would probably know how Artie would act and such. :) Maybe someday I'll work out some more specific character details.

Artie (Personal, aka Real Life)
1. How old are you?
A: I'm 21.

2. Are you in college?
A: Nope. I actually dropped out of highschool during my junior year (Or was it my senior? I forget.) Because I was doing terrible, and even my guidance counsellor thought it would be the best thing for me to do. Heh, yep. But I got my GED right away after that, though haven't wanted to go back to school for college. I may do so in the future, as I need to move on with my life eventually.

3. Do you have a job?
A: Yes I do. I'm a projectionist at a movie theater. I run the movies. :) It's a very easy job when nothing goes wrong, but if there's problems with a print, then things can get pretty hectic. The pay isn't all that great either, but what can I expect from such a job.. it's pretty boring a lot too. ^_^; You might think I watch movies all day, but I get tired of seeing them sometimes and just sit around and listen to music or read all day while I don't have anything else to do.

4. Have you seen <insert movie here>, or any good movies lately?
A: I wouldn't really be the best person to come to for movie advice, since I don't see everything that comes out. Yes, I do see movies for free, and I can even before they're released, but it still takes my time and I won't go see a movie I'm not interested in. :) And just because I liked something doesn't mean everyone else will like it. So I wouldn't use myself for a good source of what movies are good or what's playing, etc.

5. So... I'm bored, what's up?
A: I tend to ignore IMs or private messages like this since most of the time I'm in the middle of something, busy working on something, etc. And don't have time for random chat with people I don't even know. If you're going to IM me, it would be a good idea to have something specific in mind to ask or talk about, or I won't be able to pay much attention. Even then, I sometimes get so busy with things that I tend to forget about some IM windows and such. Just so you know.

6. Where do you live?
A: I live in the USA, in Virginia. Near Washington, DC.

7. So I've heard you like anime, what are some of your favorite series/movies?
A: Well There's a lot of stuff that I like, and new things would be added to this list all the time as I see new things.. but for a few of my absolute favorites, I'd have to list: Excel Saga, Slayers, Saber Marionette J, Battle Athletes, Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, and Read Or Die... there are countless others I could mention that I like, but those are just a few of my most favorite. And I'm sure I'm even forgetting some there.

8. And I've heard you like Dance Dance Revolution too?
A: Yep, been playing since August 2000 and consider myself a pretty good player. I tend to only play on the maniac level since the other modes are a bit easy, though I might warm up with them sometimes. I've consistently full comboed a lot of the 9 foot (catastrophic) songs in 3rd Mix, and my highest combo in the arcade was 1274 on Nonstop Ranking 3 in 3rd Mix (SSR). Those of you familiar with DDR would know what all that means. Heh. Currently there's only a 3rd Mix machine near me, but I'm hoping for a newer mix soon! I have all the PSX releases (Imports too), and have played up to 5th Mix in the arcade though.

9. Let's be friends!
A: Well, uh, it's kind of hard to befriend someone just like that. And being the busy person that I am, I don't always have the time to make new friends. So I'd appreciate not getting IMs just asking that. ^_^; I'm not telling you I hate you or anything, but I'm not free for random chat most of the time.
